Subject: Submission to Application ref: MCU20/0097 From: christine gough Date: 2020-11-22T00:58:06+00:00 To: Mailbox Council Mail Dear Council Officers We own and reside permanently at 7 Weyba Street, Sunshine Beach and the purpose of this email is to lodge our objection to the proposed ‘material change of use’ of the recently completed dwelling at 27A Hill St, Sunshine Beach. Our reasons for this objection: We are currently experiencing first hand what happens when a property changes from permanent residential to short term letting. Our neighbours at 9 Weyba St have recently (mid October) listed their home on AirBnB and neighbours on all sides have had to complain about the noise and disruption to our otherwise quiet neighbourhood. Music and shouting until 3:30am, jumping in the pool in the middle of the night and then again at 4:30am, drinking and partying all day and night. So much so that every week we dread the arrival of the next lot of self-serving, inconsiderate people. How is one supposed to sleep, and live a stress free life with that going on. The AirBnB hosts for our next door neighbour’s property have the same house rules that Team BnB propose to enforce at 27A Hill St as set out in the ‘Proposal’ section of Project Urban’s Development Application however, the reality is that not all people tell the truth and a booking for perhaps two couples might turn out to be four young girls who then invite four young guys who then invite four more of their mates and yes after two warnings they might be asked to leave but at what cost to the well being of the neighbours who are permanent residents and have been kept awake all night with the noise (which was our recent experience). We chose Sunshine Beach for its quiet and laid back lifestyle so we can enjoy our retirement in a peaceful environment, alongside other like-minded people. We appreciate that itinerant visitors want to enjoy our amenities however, we feel that there are already enough short term holiday lets in Sunshine Beach to accommodate holiday makers. We would still like to be able to enjoy our local restaurants and surf club in these holiday seasons but it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so with the amount of visitors descending upon us in holiday time. By opening up more short term lets we are encouraging more short term visitors whose interests and priorities are not aligned with the permanent residents, and our amenities. In summary, we ask that our Council preserve the residential amenity and character of this predominantly permanent residential neighbourhood from the adverse affects of short term holiday letting and reject this proposal - application ref: MCU20/0097.
