Jennifer Sadler 181 Forest Acres Drive Lake Macdonald 4563 Ph 5442 5585 4 June 2013 Submission MCU12/0184 Mr. Jack Lewis (Assessment Manager) Dear Mr Lewis I wish to object to the Development Application MCU12/0184 for a Chicken farm on Top Forest Road on the grounds that no matter how good the ‘best practice’ is 6 week old chickens crammed together in 8 sheds to a total of 240,000 will still smell. Cooroy just got rid of the smell from the sewage treatment plant and we don’t need another one. Smells can waft 7 kilometres when the wind is in the right direc- tion and it’s pretty windy in Cooroy at times. the road system needs work to get it up to scratch including an area near a bus stop that will be encroached upon making it unsafe for passengers. It also appears that the council is expected to pay for the upgrade. over a million kg of chicken litter a year will be stored on the site in lots of several thousand kg. It is claimed that there will be no run off but as it is to be covered in ‘canvas’ I believe run off will occur. The sheds are to be constructed to prevent run off during cleaning. Presumably water is to be used to clean the sheds but I don’t see any mention of what will happen to the water that will be contaminated with 6 weeks of urine and faeces from 35,000 chickens. Whilst I know that this objection can’t be taken into consideration in the Approval Process I strongly object to the intensive farming of chickens. Why not suggest to them to put a free range chicken farm there. There must be plenty of room for the chickens to roam around with 7000 avocado trees on over 100 hectares. Jennifer Sadler
