Appendix B - Geotech and Acid Sulfate report - MCU19-0030
Gympie Terrace Noosaville Pty Ltd
existing and potential acidity at this site would be classified as VH (very high) treatment in accordance with
Queensland Soil Management Guidelines V4.0 - Table 4.2 (i.e. between 5 and 25 tonnes of aglime).
The SPP14 guidelines require that for Category VH treatment, a stand-alone ASS Management Plan
(ASSMP) must be provided. Recommendations on strategies to be included in the ASSMP are as follows:
Excavated soil must be managed by neutralisation of existing and potential acidity. Good quality
agricultural lime should be thoroughly mixed with the spoil. Any lime treatment should be carried out in
accordance with Queensland Acid Sulfate Soil Technical Manual, Soil Management Guidelines (Ver.
4.0. 2014).
Treatment should be carried out on prepared pads. The earthworks strategy should be formulated to
provide an appropriately sized pad to enable practical spreading, mixing and drying, so that adequate
time is available to complete the treatment and verification before placing the next layer of soil. Should
an area not be available for a treatment pad due to space restrictions treatment could be carried out
in-situ.
Stormwater should be diverted away from treatment/fill areas.
Verification sampling and analysis is to be carried out on the treated soil to confirm that appropriate
amounts of the neutralising agent have been incorporated into the soil.
Groundwater quality should be monitored through new groundwater monitoring wells located across
the site.
Management of groundwater seepage and rainfall collected in excavations and other works areas on
site, including treatment recommendations, must be incorporated into the ASSMP.
During construction, it is recommended that all waters collected from groundwater or surface water inflow, be
retained, monitored and if needed, treated to comply with the appropriate discharge criteria prior to discharge
offsite.
