5.2 Subsurface Conditions
The subsurface conditions encountered in the boreholes generally comprised the following:
TOPSOIL: comprising loose to dense silty sand and ranging between 100 mm to 200 mm thick,
overlying
ALLUVIAL SOILS: generally comprising loose to medium dense, grading to dense and very dense,
sands to between 5 m and 6.1 m depth; underlain by medium to high plasticity, firm to stiff, clay and
silty/sandy clay materials, underlain by
RESIDUAL SOILS: comprising stiff to very stiff, medium plasticity, silty sandy clay from depths of
between 7.5 m and 8.5 m (RL -5.73 m and RL -6.8 m AHD).
5.3 Groundwater
Groundwater inflow was encountered in all boreholes during our investigation. Table 2 summarises the
groundwater conditions encountered.
Table 2: Summary of Groundwater Conditions (14 November 2018)
Borehole Location Groundwater Depth m BGL (~RL m AHD)
BH1 1.5 (0.27)
BH2 1.2 (0.55)
BH3 1.5 (0.20)
BH4 1.5 (0.17)
Groundwater in the standpipe in borehole BH1 was measured at 2 m BGL (RL -0.23 m) on 14 November
2018.
Given the sites close proximity to the Noosa River, groundwater levels will likely vary with tidal influence and
prevailing weather conditions. Previous experience in the area indicates that the groundwater level can rise
close to the ground surface following periods of heavy or prolonged rainfall.
