INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 28 APRIL 2015
(iii) Pest and Vector
Develop systems and processes to ensure that 1080 baiting program and pest animal,
plant and vector control customer requests and inspection data are recorded in T1;
Investigate potential for mobile technology options for Pest Animal, Pest Plant and
vector control programs.
Investigate the viability of contracting out vermin control of council public barbeques.
Expand the feral dog, deer and pig control program with QPWS, Forestry, SEQ Water
and local land holders.
Undertake educational training program with targeted community groups in pest
management techniques such as trapping and baiting (mainly feral cats, dogs, foxes,
pigs and common myna bird). This will lead to identifying problem areas with specific
responses rather than a blanket-type bait and trapping approach.
Complete the last quarter of the annual pest management program of public and private
properties.
Develop a program with Dept.of Agriculture., Fisheries and Forestry, to tag and
research feral deer movements in Tinbeerwah. Map deer densities across the region.
Secure an Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spray device to control adult mosquitoes.
Develop a public awareness program for activation during the peak mosquito breeding
season.
Investigating a suitable tractor mounted rotary ditch digging device for the maintenance
of existing mosquito control runnelling system. Quote from Gold Coast City Council to
provide a specifically designed runnelling machine and operator is approx. $20,000 per
week.
Reinstate the previously constructed runnells in salt marsh mosquito breeding areas
that have not been maintained for the past 6 years.
Investigate the feasibility of a shared boat to improve mosquito control and water weeds
assessment and treatment in water ways.
