INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 28 APRIL 2015
To date, management intervention has included:
Removal of the rope swings which commenced in November and has continued on an
ongoing basis.
Received from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry (DAFF), the list of design
constraints for a recreational/fishing structure to be constructed within a Management Level
A classification of a declared Fish Habitat Area.
Outsourced quotes for the structure design from consultants (e.g. Request for Quote) which
included the design constraints from DAFF.
Received one quote for design of the recreational/fishing structure (one consultant declined
to quote and one consultant withdrew their quote).
Developed and distributed a Project News factsheet around the Weyba Creek Esplanade
residential area.
Visited three Noosa Backpacker establishments to inform management about the
environmental and public risk concerns at Weyba Creek rope swing area and the intended
management intervention. The backpacker establishments indicated they would no longer
send their guests to the area.
Conducted a Community Information Session onsite to discuss design of the
recreational/fishing structure and glean feedback from local residents.
Finance & Risk
The current funding for this project is split between two financial years as follows:
2014/15, $20,000 for design
2015/16, $200,000 for construction.
Based on the estimated costs of Option 2 a revision of the funding from $200,000 to $120,000 for
2015/16 will be required as part of the 2015/16 Budget development.
The total costs of a formal access to Weyba Creek at the picnic table location by way of steps to
the creek and a canoe/kayak launch for recreational purposes (see photo of timber example
below) is estimated to be $100,000 ($80,000 for an aluminium structure) plus the associated
costs of bank stabilisation measures (i.e. site preparation, planting, fencing, signage and
monitoring) at the former rope swing area are estimated to be $20,000.
