REPORT
Draft Noosa Bushland Reserve Management Plan 2015 - 2017
Under the Fire and Rescue Service Act 1990, Noosa Council has certain obligations in relation to
fire management on bushland reserves. Responsibilities include managing fuel loads, reporting
and extinguishing unauthorised fires, and notifying neighbours and authorities of any planned
burns.
The development of a Noosa Bushland Reserve Fire Management Plan was endorsed by
Council at its Ordinary Meeting on 12 February 2015. A Draft Bushland Reserve Fire
Management Plan 2015 - 2017 (refer to Attachment 1) has been developed, which proposes the
following actions:
Deliver a programme of fire hazard assessments across the bushland reserve network;
Prioritise reserves for fire management actions;
Establish and improve fire trail networks and fuel reduction zones;
Plan for ecological burns;
Initiate bushland reserve neighbour bushfire education campaigns in conjunction with
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services;
Build capacity with other agencies such as Queensland Fire and Emergency Services,
Department of National Parks, Sports and Racing, Department of Natural Resources & Mines
and other large landholders to manage bushfire and assist with planned burns;
