3. Details of Submission
I (We), make the following submission:
• Noosa has very little open land left for development and that should be reserved for projects which create
genuinely new jobs in new fields to diversify our employment base. Adding more dead-end retail jobs is not
a wise, forward-looking investment that will benefit the area, its residents, or even visitors.
• Noosa Civic already has more retail space than can be supported by the population catchment of the region.
More retail space will simply cause more empty shop fronts and faster collapse of existing businesses.
• When Noosa Civic originally opened, most of the jobs it purportedly “created” were actually cannibalised from
existing local businesses. Extending the civic's retail footprint will just kill off more unique local businesses.
• The proposed extension is not only unneeded, unsustainable retail, it is old-style enclosed “big box” shopping-
mall retail straight from the 1950's when that was a new concept. It does not fit with Noosa's attributes,
aspirations, or attractions as either a place to live or a place to visit.
