3.1 SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OF FAUNA SPOTTER/CATCHER
A suitably qualified and experienced licensed fauna spotter/catcher is to be present for the duration of
clearing works to monitor and manage animals observed during the clearing works. Individual trees within
and immediately adjacent to the clearing area will continue to be inspected throughout clearing activities.
The fauna spotter/catcher may be required to undertake any or all of the following actions:
Directing clearing contractors to undertake clearing in a direction that encourages wildlife to move
away unassisted and toward adjacent suitable habitat
Directing clearing contractors to undertake sequential clearing of understorey vegetation prior to
removal of habitat trees (where applicable)
Directing clearing contractors to retain individual standing trees that are host to wildlife until the
wildlife has moved on
Directing clearing contractors to retain all hollow bearing trees (if present) in-situ until they have
been thoroughly inspected. Where an animal is identified within a habitat tree, then the trees are
to be left in-situ overnight to allow fauna to move to nearby habitat
Checking potential nests and other habitat features for active occupation prior to clearance of the
tree
Capture and relocation of animals that do not move off-site without assistance
Immediate on-site assessment of injured fauna and delivery to the nearest veterinarian for
treatment if required
Delivery of injured or orphaned fauna to wildlife carers for rehabilitation where veterinary
inspection is not warranted
