West Ridge Quarry
Site Based Management Plan
The Site has been subject to the following Notifiable Activity pursuant to section 374 of the
Environmental Protection Act 1994.
PETROLEUM PRODUCT OR OIL STORAGE – storing petroleum products or oil –
(a) in underground tanks with more than 200L capacity; or
(b) in above ground tanks with –
for petroleum products or oil in class 3 in packaging groups 1 and 2 of the dangerous
goods code – more than 2,500L capacity; or
for petroleum products or oil in class 3 in packaging groups 3 of the dangerous
goods code
– more than 5,000L capacity; or for petroleum products that are combustible
liquids in class C1 or C2 in Australian Standard AS1940, ‘The storage and
handling of flammable and combustible liquids’ published by Standards
Australia – more than 25,000L capacity.
Lot 2 on SP108094 and Lot 3 on SP108094 are not included on the Contaminated Land Register
(CLR).
Regional The Site is mapped as comprising several areas of remnant vegetation; however the proposed
Ecosystem: extraction areas do not enter any of these mapped areas. The northern portion of Lot 3 on
SP108094 and the area directly adjacent to the left branch of Six Mile Creek are mapped as
Remnant vegetation containing Endangered regional ecosystems with small areas of VMA Essential
Habitat in the north eastern and south western corners. The middle of the northern portion of the
Site, and small portions in the south western corners of the lot include areas of mapped Remnant
vegetation containing Of Concern regional ecosystems. The regional ecosystem map shows the Site
containing two distinct vegetation communities (refer Figure 5 – Regional Ecosystem Map). These
are as follows:
i. 12.9-10.1 – Shrubby open forest often with Eucalyptus resinifera, E. grandis, Corymbia
intermedia on sedimentary rocks. Coastal (VMA of concern, Biodiversity status of
concern).
ii. 12.9-10.17 – Open forest complex often with Eucalyptus acmenoides, E. major, E.
siderophloia +/- Corymbia citriodora on sedimentary rocks (VMA least concern,
Biodiversity status no concern at present)
VMA Essential Regrowth Habitat traverses the centre of the northern portion of Lot 3 from east to
west. This area contains both High value regrowth containing Endangered regional ecosystems and
High value regrowth containing Of Concern regional ecosystems. The south western corner of the lot
also contains VMA Essential Regrowth Habitat with Of Concern regional ecosystems. The areas of
regrowth vegetation on-site are shown on Figure 6 – Regrowth Vegetation Map. These areas will
not be impacted upon by the proposed development. No Property Maps of Assessable Vegetation
(PMAVs) are present on-site.
Fauna & Flora: Vegetation cover is present along the natural watercourse passing along the eastern boundary (Six
Mile Creek) and in the majority of the northern and south western portions of Lot 3 on SP108094.
The area utilised for mining purposes in the mid lower portion of the lot is cleared land with only
minimal sparse vegetation cover.
Groundsel bush (Baccharis halimifolia) has been previously identified on-site, however the Site has
been treated twice to control the pest species. This species is a Class 2 declared pest plant under
Queensland legislation.
Waterways and The Site is not situated within a declared Wild River area under the Queensland’s Wild Rivers
Wetlands Act 2005.
The Map of Referable Wetlands shows a Wetland Management Area along the eastern boundary of
Lot 3 on SP108094 directly adjacent to Six Mile Creek and along the northern boundary of the Site.
The proposed development will not be located within these identified wetland areas.
