Site Based Management Plan
3.8.5 Monitoring
The Site Manager or delegate shall carry out a daily inspection during clearing.
Once Site rehabilitation commences, the Site Manager shall prepare a Site Rehabilitation Plan and Monitoring
Program.
Rehabilitation measures including landform stability, long-term sediment and erosion controls and revegetation of
profiled final land surfaces will be visually monitored by the Site Manager and, where relevant, assessed by technical
experts to determine the effectiveness of measures implemented.
The Site Manager may engage a suitably qualified consultant to monitor the establishment of vegetation and land
stability. The method shall be at the discretion of the professional consultant but may include gradient or transect
method to monitor:
- an assessment of surface (and slope) stability;
- plant community structural attributes (such as cover); and
- plant community composition (such as presence of desired species and weeds).
The key parameters to be measured as part of the monitoring program will include:
- erosion;
- groundcover;
- vegetation species (richness of desired species); and
- weed presence.
Photographs shall be taken of the rehabilitated area at nominated photograph sites on at least a yearly basis to
monitor plant growth and to record the progress, success or otherwise of the rehabilitation works completed, until the
nominated rehabilitation success indicators have been achieved.
The Site Manager shall conduct regular inspections to plan timely maintenance works. Maintenance works shall be
required for fertilising, watering, repairs to barriers, guards and stakes and plant replacement (refer to Table 17 –
Maintenance Schedule – Vegetation Works).
