Ecological Assessment Report
> Affording vegetative cover over steep land and gullies which would otherwise be subject to land
degradation from erosion or landslip.
> As primary and secondary habitat for a range of fauna species.
The site inspection confirmed the above listed values as being generally correct for the proposed
disturbance areas, with higher ecological values provided by the “Regenerating Open Forest” community
than the “Open Grassland” community.
4.2.3 Significant Flora Species
As shown in Appendix C and D a number of threatened plant species were recorded as potentially occurring
in the vicinity of the disturbance areas. No flora species of conservation significance under State or
Commonwealth legislation were observed during the field survey. Nevertheless, a precautionary approach
was adopted and a ‘likelihood of occurrence’ assessment was conducted for significant flora species that
were predicted by the EPBC Protected Matters search and the Wildlife Online database search to potentially
occur within the site. The assessment was based on an analysis of habitat suitability as observed during the
field survey, and involved rating each of the predicted species as follows:
> present, if the species was observed within the proposed disturbance areas;
> possible, if potentially suitable habitat was observed within the proposed disturbance areas; or
> unlikely, if suitable habitat is absent from the proposed disturbance areas.
As described in Table 4-1 below, all of the significant flora species that have been recorded within the site
locality are considered “Unlikely” to occur within the proposed disturbance areas on the basis that suitable
habitat types are not provided for any of these species.

Proposed Disturbance Areas
Species Status* Likelihood Justification
of
Occurrence
Xanthostemon V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Penda is predominantly found along watercourses on
oppositifolius (Southern V (NC Act) sandy clay. The disturbance areas do not support
penda) watercourses.
Arthraxon hispidus V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (edges of rainforests, wet eucalypt
(Hairy-joint Grass) V (NC Act) forest and often near creeks or swamps) generally
absent from the site, no individuals observed.
Bosistoa selwynii V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (lowland subtropical rainforest)
(Heart-leaved Bosistoa) absent from the disturbance areas.
Bosistoa transversa V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (lowland subtropical rainforest)
(Three-leaved Bosistoa) absent from the disturbance areas.
Bulbophyullum globulifome V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (this orchid only grows on Hoop pines
i.e. Araucaria cunninghamii) is not present in the
disturbance areas.
Cryptocarya foetida V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (littoral rainforest) absent from the
(Stinking Cryptocarya) E (NC Act) disturbance areas.
Floydia praealta (Ball nut) V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat is absent from the site (this species
V (NC Act) range overlaps with the ‘White box-Yellow box-
Blakely’s Red gum grassy woodland and derived
native grassland’ EPBC Act threatened community).
Macadamia ternifolia V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (fertile, basalt-derived soils on steep
(Small-fruited Queensland V (NC Act) southern slopes) are absent from the disturbance
nut) areas.
Phebalium distans CE (EPBC Unlikely Suitable habitat (semi-evergreen vine thicket) absent
(Mount Berryman Act) from the disturbance areas.
Phebalium)
Taeniophyllum muelleri V (EPBC Act) Unlikely Suitable habitat (rainforest) absent from the
disturbance areas.
