3.5 Borewater Supply
A new borewater supply is to be established on the site.
Advice has been obtained from a local water bore driller with experience in this area indicating
that it should be possible to develop a groundwater bore on this site. The bore is likely to be
located on the ridgeline to the northern edge of the site, with a depth of approximately 60m.
The water is expected to be good quality though not suitable for consumption without filtration
and disinfection.
Bore yields of between 50 to 100 kL per day are expected, ie more than adequate as a reserve
supply to the development.
Investigations are on-going to locate and establish a suitable water supply bore at the site.
3.6 Water Treatment
The harvested roofwater will require treatment before use as it will contain contaminants washed
from roof surfaces and gutters, including leaf litter, dust and animal droppings. As noted above,
the groundwater will also require disinfection. Combined roofwater / borewater treatment will
include:
▪ Coarse filtration to remove larger particles;
▪ Pressure media filtration to remove fine solids to manage turbidity;
▪ Activated carbon filtration to remove any organic chemicals;
▪ Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation for primary disinfection;
▪ Chlorine (as sodium hypochlorite) dosing as a secondary disinfectant and to provide residual
protection in the distribution system.
3.7 Design Details
The proposed water supply configuration includes:
▪ Provide rainwater tanks at each building with water pumped to a central raw water storage;
▪ Provide an on-site borewater supply pumping to the raw water storage;
▪ Provide a central roofwater treatment plant with treated water storage tank;
▪ Distribute the water to the buildings using a pumped pressure system.
The following system configuration has been adopted. The system arrangement and the location
of central water storage facilities and treatment plant is indicated in Appendix B – Figure B1.
