4 NON-POTABLE WATER SUPPLY
4.1 Proposed Non-Potable Supply
Dam water from the on-site dams will be harvested for irrigation of gardens and landscaping and
for watering stock.
4.2 Non-Potable Water Demands
External water demands will depend on the areas under irrigation (landscaping and cropping) and
the type of crop grown, and the number and type of stock kept on the site. Indicative demand
rates are provided in Table 8.
Table 8 Non-Potable Water Demand Rates
Use Demand Rate
Average garden water demand (indicative) 2 mm/day (lawn)
2 mm/day (landscaping)
3 mm/day (trees)
Average crop water demand (indicative) 3 mm/day (vegetables)
3 mm/day (other small crops)
3 mm/day (fruit trees)
Stock water demand (indicative) 40 - 100 L/day (cattle)
40 - 50 L/day (horses)
2 - 6 L/day (sheep)
The estimated demand for non-potable water, based on the assumed land uses in Table 3 and
the demand rates in Table 8, is provided in Table 9. Note that these estimates are conservative
and will depend on the nature of the landscaping developed on the site and how this is managed.
Table 9 Average External Water Demands
Item Assumption Average Demand
