Attn: Nadine Gorton September 8th, 2022 Re: DA0047/22 Dear Nadine, We are Justine and Matt, the property owners of 411 Black Pinch Road, Cootharaba. We are writing for the purpose of placing context around our development application for placing a removal home on our block. Coming from our current life overseas in Canada, we can’t express enough how excited we are to become participating members of the Noosa Hinterland community. We feel incredibly grateful that we get to become the custodians of such a large portion of land to care for and preserve and feel we are a doing it an honour by relocating an old Queenslander from within the Shire to become our forever home on the land. We currently reside in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada with our three children aged 5, 4 and 8 months and have been prepping our little ones for their big move to “the farm house by Nannies house by the ocean”. We have our flights booked to immigrate to Australia on the 2nd of November with the timing being motivated by getting our eldest son enrolled into the Kin Kin State School before the end of the year. Our eldest child Byron has a rare Chromosomal Disorder that impacts his development globally. Byron can become easily stressed when faced with change and his response can be quite sever with head-banging and aggression towards himself and his siblings. Yet Byron is beloved by all who are afforded the opportunity to connect with him through his determination, empathy, and attentiveness to nature. It is when fully immersed in nature that Byron thrives as the best version of himself. This is our motivation for moving to the land and our reason for seeking out the small community school in Kin Kin. Any parent wants only what’s best for their children with Byron presenting extra motivation to achieve this best. Through consultation with the staff at Kin Kin School and the State’s developmental specialists, as well as his team of specialists here in Canada, we have come to the conclusion that we would best serve Byron’s transition by allowing him the soft introduction to his new school late in the year at what is the most enjoyable time of the term full of outdoor activities. Further, we would be able to help de-stress this introduction by moving him straight from his current home in Canada straight into his next home in Australia. Moving a removal-home onto the property is our only means possible to make this happen within our budget and timeframe. And quite frankly the thought of that home being a preserved and restored old Queenslander is the thing of fairy tales and dreams. We currently live in an incredible neighbourhood in Matt’s hometown, surrounded by people we love, which has made this decision to move that much more challenging. We’ve sold the only home we’ve ever lived in as a married couple, the only home our kids have ever known, and the home whose walls all 3 were born within. With a heavy heart we hand over possession on November 2nd corresponding with the date of our one way flights down under. Although it may seem that we jumped the gun on flights, if you can imagine trying to time both the feat of wrapping up our only home while needing to fly across the world to another that yet exists is a monumental act. We purchased the Queenslander in early March with the understanding from our removal company that standard approvals are generally completed within 2-4 months. As it stands, the house needs to be removed from its current lot in Tewantin no later than October 3rd. We feel through all the correspondence that we have our development approval steadfast in our sights. Now we just need some grace and assistance in assessing the application to get to get there. With sincere thanks for your time and attention, Justine, Matt, Byron, Donovan and Rosie.
