The Royal Mail - Submission
Attached to the e-mail PM Submission - Jillian & Maurie Hill - MCU23/0090, DBW23/0073 & RAL23/0012.
SUBMISSION TO NOOSA COUNCIL 26 MAY 2024 BY JILLIAN & MAURICE HILL (OWNER RESIDENTS, RATE PAYERS, 24 YEARS) UNIT 11, 2-10 BLAKESLEY STREET, TEWANTIN, QLD 4565 RELATING TO APPLICATION DETAILS: Ref: MCU23/0090, DBW23/0073 & RAL23/0012 WHERE: 118 Poinciana Ave & Diyan Street, Tewantin Qld 4565 ON: Lot 3 on RP40197 & Lot 1 on RP845244 TYPE: Development Permit for Material Change of Use for Extension to Hotel; Development Permit for Reconfiguration of a Lot for Boundary Realignment; Development Permit for Building Works Assessable against the Planning Scheme for Demolition within the Heritage Overlay DETAILS OF SUBMISSION: Council has received several submissions from very concerned, long-term owners and rate payers who live in the four residential blocks on the northern side of Blakesley Street; in relation to the three Development Permits sought by the current property owners. These submissions primarily refer to FUTURE PARKING CONGESTION, TWO- WAY TRAFFIC FLOWS, EXCESSIVE NOISE POTENTIAL, APPEARANCE & LANDSCAPING and FUTURE PLANS FOR LOT 3 on the corner of Blakesley and Diyan Streets. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE FULLY ENDORSE ALL SUBMITTED COMMENTS ON THE PROPOSED FUTURE ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFETY IMPACTS ON OUR LIFESTYLES AND FOR MOST BLAKESLEY STREET OWNERS, OUR LONG-EARNED RETIREMENT INVESTMENTS. Note also, that the prior quiet ambience and relatively safety of Blakesley Street were seriously compromised by the travesty of a prior Council’s Woolworths approval; and subsequent impacts on the whole of the Tewantin township precinct. Blakesley Street was seriously impacted with little consideration; and the proposed applications will further compound current parking, traffic and safety (entry & exit, street crossing) concerns. Council is fully aware of current traffic and parking challenges in the township, but by approving the current permits and compromising on the required 183 carparking bays required by the Noosa Plan 2020 edict, Tewantin’s vehicular destiny will likely parallel Hastings Street and surrounds — a disaster that could have been prevented with foresight and better decisions. We were recently informed by a Noosa councillor that Tewantin is planned for a major Council investment and upgrade within a few years. We can only request that the proposed objectives and outcomes of that project are fully considered in the final approvals for the subject applications. No more compromises, no more bowing to corporate investors who take their profits out of Noosa Shire.

Finally, we would like to propose some lateral thinking in relation to both parking and access for the Royal Mail re-development if a senior planning officer or councillor had 30 minutes available to discuss these matters. Contact Maurie Hill Mob 0419 700 427 (past chair Sunshine Coast Business Council of Australia). We support the re-development of the Royal Mail, but let’s get it right in all aspects, while we still can. Sincerely Dns | RK ~N
