Dear Patrick, 

 

It is my understanding that the decision period for the abovementioned development application ends on the 29th of February 2024. 

 

As discussed, it is necessary to extend the decision period to allow for the application to be considered by the Council, which is complicated by the looming local government election to be held on 16 March 2024. 

 

Given the significance of the hotel to the applicant and the Noosa community, it is suggested the application should be properly considered by the new council. The new council will require time to understand the proposed development and the significant community benefit that would be provided, with no town planning consequences as a result. 

 

Accordingly, it is suggested that the decision period should be extended to the end of June 2024. This would allow newly elected Councillors sufficient time to familiarise themselves with the merits and implications of the proposed hotel development and allow them to make a fully informed decision. By extending the decision period to June, the applicant believes this will enhance public confidence that the decision by the Council is in the best interests of the community.

 

Pursuant to section 22 of the Development Assessment Rules, the applicant seeks to extend the decision period by agreement to 30 June 2024. 

 

It is acknowledged that the application could be decided before 30 June 2024, but it is requested that the applicant be notified beforehand if this is the case. 

 

Please advise if you have any concerns with extending the decision period to 30 June 2024.
