3 Existing Noise Environment
MRG conducted noise measurements to establish the existing ambient noise environment. Noise
measurements were conducted at Location N1, N2 and N3 located on the southeastern,
northeastern and southwestern portions of the site respectively, as presented on Figure 1.1.
Measurements were conducted from Thursday 16 to Monday 20 July 2015 with Larson Davies LD831
sound level meters. The noise loggers were field calibrated with no significant drift noted during the
measurement period. Audio snap shots were recorded at the commencement of each monitoring
interval. Dominant noise sources were road traffic and commercial (mechanical plant) noise.
Extraneous plant noise at location N2 has been removed from the measurement summary.

Weather observations were taken from the nearest Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) station being
Tewantin (Tewantin RSL Park Station Ref: 040908) and Cooroy AL (Station Ref: 540325). Inclement
weather was noted during the monitoring period from 3:00 pm to midnight on 19/07/2015.
Extraneous plant noise at location N2 has been removed from the measurement summary.

A summary of unattended and attended measurements are presented in Table 3.1, Table 3.2 and
Table 3.3 for monitoring Location N1, N2 and N3 respectively. Table 3.4 summarises measured
background noise levels at Location N1, N2 and N3. Plots of LA1, LA10, LAeq and LA90 are presented in
Figure 3.1, Figure 3.2, and Figure 3.3 for N1, N2 and N3 respectively. Attended measurements were
also conducted on Monday 20 July 2015 at Location N4 and N5 (see Figure 1.1) to determine the
exposure of existing residences to road traffic noise originating from Garnet Street and Wimmers
Lane. A summary of these measurements is presented in Table 3.5.

The following time periods are considered:
         Daytime is taken to be 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
         Evening is taken to be 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm
         Nighttime is the remaining hours of the day being 10:00 pm to 7:00 am.
