2.4. Resident Total Trade Area Retail Expenditure Capacity
i. The estimated retail expenditure capacity of the Noosa total trade area population is based on
information sourced from Market Data Systems (MDS). MDS utilises a detailed micro-simulation model
of household expenditure behaviour for all residents of Australia. All retail spending projections in this
report are in constant 2018 dollars and include GST.
ii. The MDS model takes into account information from a wide variety of sources, including the regular
ABS Household Expenditure Survey, the National Accounts Data, Census Data and other information.
MarketInfo estimates used in this analysis are based on the 2018 release, benchmarked against the
latest National Accounts Data, released by the ABS. Throughout Australia, the MarketInfo estimates of
retail spending that are prepared independently by MDS are commonly used by all parties in economic
assessments.
iii. Charts 2.2 illustrates the traditional retail spending levels per person across the Noosa total trade area
as compared with the South-east Queensland benchmark.
