9. Appendix F - Economic Impact Assessment
2.5. Other Customer Segments
Large format retail and non-retail showrooms at the Noosa Marketplace site would also service a number of
other customer segments including tourists and trade supplies.
Tourists
i. In relation to tourists, Noosa is a significant tourist destination including day trippers, domestic overnight
tourists and international tourists.
ii. Some 4.7 million visitor nights are spent in Noosa each year in a range of tourist accommodation
facilities. These tourists spend the equivalent of around 15% of trade area resident retail spending.
Consequently, given the large range of tourist accommodation, there would also be some spending on
large format retail facilities as part of furnishing and upgrading these accommodation facilities,
estimated at 10%.
iii. As discussed previously, the types of retail categories that are typically incorporated within the large
format retail stores are as follows:
‒ Hardware ‒ Curtains and blinds
‒ Doors ‒ Heating and cooling
‒ Flooring ‒ Home decoration and paint
‒ Lawn & Garden ‒ Lighting and fans
‒ Outdoor Living ‒ Household Appliances
‒ Furniture ‒ Brown goods
‒ Manchester ‒ White Goods
