Details of Submission I (We), make the following submission: I am a student at Good Shepherd Lutheran College and I am writing to you to address and share my thoughts on the newly proposed development of a service station next to the school. I have been at Good Shepherd for 9 years and I am really enjoying my time there but the proposed development of a service station is concerning me. Here are a few reasons why, 1. The health of teachers, parents and students are at risk. The service station will be right next to the school’s HPE and function centre. It will also be next to the school pool. These places are used on a daily basis. If a service station is built here, students, parents and teachers will inhale the fumes of the petroleum. This is very unhealthy and disturbing. I really do not want to be inhaling fumes and I am quite sure that not many other people would want to either. 2. There will be increased noise. This will be due to more cars near the school and lots of people using the station. The school doesn’t need more noise pollution. 3. Increased traffic. More cars will be on the Eumundi and Walter Hay Drive roads. This will increase noise and is dangerous to students who have to walk somewhere after school. These roads are school zones that will be almost congested if that service station is built. These roads are already busy enough and we don’t need more cars here. There are a few key reasons. Also, having a service station will put a bad reputation on the school which may cause some parents to pull their child or children out of the school. Do you know any schools that have a petrol station next to it! I certainly don’t. The word is getting around about this issue and already within 24 hours, parents and students are complaining. Many parents including my own are disgusted by this. All of my friends think that this is disgraceful and somewhat offensive. On behalf of myself and countless other parents and students, please reject this development. You will be helping out a lot of people if you do. Good Shepherd is an excellent school with a good reputation. Don’t let this service station ruin this beloved school.
