Ref:  MCU15/0082 (From vacant land to community uses – Wellbeing type 2 – Social)
I would like to submit a comment in favour of the Cooroy-Noosa Genealogical & Historical Research Group Inc.
This Group has worked hard over 18 years in assisting the people of this area of the Noosa Shire Council and beyond.    As well as its focus on family history research, it also provides a large collection of local history resources, assists the Libraries and has been of tremendous assistance to the Council.
Our resources include computers and a library which also includes microfiche, CDs and maps etc. and they are in danger, and have been for many years, of being damaged because of the appalling accommodation we have had to endure for years.
We have a large membership and a number of experienced volunteers to provide a wonderful service, for family and local history research, as well as information of many areas of Australia and overseas.
Many enquiries are made by Visitors to our ‘Group’s Facility’, from the local community, as well as people from all over Australia and from overseas.
This vacant land is ideal for our purpose built construction and will provide the Group with space for its many activities, ie:  workshops for the Council and the local people, etc.
The quiet activities of the Group are contained within the building and at the moment we enjoy a good relationship with our present neighbours.
I strongly and urgently recommend that this submission be approved for this wonderful Group to continue to provide this essential service of historical information, which has become so important to people and societies everywhere in Australia and in the world.
