RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Senior Officer, Transport and Traffic to the Services &
Organisation Committee Meeting dated 11 April 2017 detailing the key outcomes of the Noosa
Traffic Advisory and Speed Management Committee meeting held on 16 March 2017.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is to update Council on the key outcomes of the Noosa Traffic Advisory
and Speed Management Committee meeting held on 16 March 2017.
Three (3) speed review related issues were discussed during the meeting as set out below.
1. Speed Review – Noosa Heads
Council staff upon the request of customers and the Queensland Police Service conducted a
review of speed limits in the Noosa Heads business area. The review proposed to rationalise the
speed limits by recommending that Noosa Drive (over Noosa Hill) and Noosa Parade leading into
the Hastings Street precinct be reduced to 40km/h.
The recommendation to lower limits was presented by Council staff and discussed by the
committee.
The recommendation to accept the recommended changes to the speed limits was voted on and
accepted by the committee with Council to implement the sign changes.
2. Speed Review – Cooroy Noosa Road
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) implemented previously approved changes
of the 100km/h speed limit on Cooroy Noosa Road (generally between Swift Drive and Tinbeerwah
Road) to 90km/h.
The implemented changes included the area through the intersections of Swift Drive and McPauls
Road. A number of customers expressed concern to Council and the Department of Transport and
Main Roads (DTMR) regarding the changes. The merits of this particular change were discussed
by the committee.
