7. Emergency and Incident Management
Effective emergency and incident management procedures are crucial for ensuring the safety of
patrons, staff, and the surrounding community. This section outlines comprehensive measures
to prepare for, respond to, and recover from various emergencies and incidents, ensuring
alignment with safety regulations and best practices.
a) Emergency Response Planning
• Evacuation Plan:
o The hotel has a detailed evacuation plan in place, designed in compliance with
fire safety regulations and the Building Code of Australia. The plan includes:
Clearly marked emergency exits and escape routes located throughout
the premises, including outdoor areas and terraces.
Designated assembly points located away from the building to provide a
safe gathering area for patrons and staff during an emergency.
Evacuation maps posted at strategic points around the venue, including
near exits, restrooms, and service areas, ensuring visibility and
accessibility.
• Staff Roles and Responsibilities:
o All staff will be trained in emergency response protocols, including specific roles
such as fire wardens and first aid officers. These roles will involve leading
patrons to safety, performing headcounts, and communicating with emergency
services.
o Staff members designated as emergency marshals will receive additional
training to manage evacuations efficiently, including assisting mobility-impaired
individuals and coordinating with external emergency services.
• Regular Drills and Training:
o The hotel will conduct fire and evacuation drills every three months to ensure
staff are familiar with emergency procedures and evacuation routes. All drills will
be documented, and any areas for improvement identified during these
exercises will be addressed in subsequent training sessions.
o Annual refresher training sessions will also be conducted, covering fire safety,
first aid, and incident response procedures to maintain staff readiness and
compliance with safety regulations.
b) Incident Reporting and Management
• Incident Register:
o An incident register will be maintained to record any emergencies, accidents, or
incidents that occur on the premises. The register will include details such as:
The date and time of the incident.
A description of the incident, including the type (e.g., medical
emergency, fire alarm activation, disorderly conduct) and location.
