RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Chief Executive Officer to the Services & Organisation
Committee Meeting dated 12 June 2018 and appoint Cr ___________ as Council’s
representative on Tourism Noosa’s Industry Development & Sustainability Committee.
REPORT
The Chairperson of Tourism Noosa has recently approached Council requesting that Council
nominate a Councillor representative to participate on their Industry Development & Sustainability
Committee (IDSC).
The purpose of the IDSC, as advised by Tourism Noosa, is to provide strategic and tactical
advice to the Tourism Noosa Board on the development of tourism industry, product and
sustainability initiatives. The tourism industry development and sustainability objectives (as
outlined in the Tourism Strategy 2017 – 2022) form the basis of the broader objectives of the
IDSC.
Essentially, the purpose of the group is to provide advice to the Tourism Noosa Board on these
issues to ensure best practice and evidenced based decision making at the Board level on
tourism development and sustainability. It is understood that the Committee is looking to have
more emphasis on the sustainability element of its role and is looking for a Councillor to add to its
deliberations in that regard.
Tourism Noosa has advised that Committee members are required to contribute to an exchange
of ideas through a commitment to industry/product development and sustainability principles for
the benefit of the tourism industry in the Noosa area.
Council’s Director Environment & Sustainable Development and Economic Development
Manager currently attend IDSC meetings as invited observers.
