SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 MARCH 2017
Social Media
Over 38 Facebook posts were used to engage with the community over this period. This included
several campaigns including ‘Waste Free Wednesday’, National Recycling Week, Recycling at
Christmas and the continuing promotion of the Garden Bin Service. These posts have reached
over 48,076 people. There have been regular sliders on Council’s website page and articles in
the local media.
Outcomes
Over 4 tonnes of E-Waste was collected at Bunnings over the 2 day event. Everyone that
dropped off E-Waste at Bunnings did not realise that Council were collecting it at the transfer
stations again.
Many people expressed interest in attending the Tour of the Recycling Centre in Nambour but
unfortunately we did not have enough spaces. Officers will aim to budget for more places next
year.
There were lots of very positive comments and emails from individuals saying they enjoyed the
workshops and information sessions. The outdoor movie received lots of thank you’s from
individuals that attended. Many people said they thought it was good that Council were engaging
with the community and they were glad that E-Waste recycling had commenced again.
3. PEOPLE
Wayne Schafer returned from overseeing the waste tender process to his normal duties as
Waste and Environmental Health Manager in November 2016.
Other staff numbers and positions remain constant.
