RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Senior Officer, Transport and Traffic to the Services &
Organisation Committee Meeting dated 7 February 2017 detailing the key outcomes of the Noosa
Traffic Advisory and Speed Management Committee meeting held on 15 December 2016.


REPORT
The purpose of this report is to update Council on the key outcomes of the Noosa Traffic Advisory
and Speed Management Committee meeting held on 15 December 2016.

Two (2) speed review related issues were finalised during the meeting as set out below.

1.                       Speed Review – McKinnon Drive, Cooroibah

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) on request by Council undertook a review
of the 100km/h speed limit on the Boreen Point – Tewantin Road (McKinnon Drive, generally
between Silverwood Dr and Lake Cooroibah Rd).

The speed review assessment was presented by DTMR and discussed by the Committee. The
assessment recognised that the current posted speed was set appropriately for this road and the
recommendation was for the current speed limit of 100km/h to remain.

The recommendation to accept the current speed limit was voted on and accepted by the
committee with no further action required.

2.                       Speed Review – Cooroy Noosa Road

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) undertook a review of the 100km/h speed
limit on Cooroy Noosa Road (generally between Swift Drive and Tinbeerwah Road).

The merits of changing the speed limit to 90km/h were presented by TMR and discussed in detail
at the meeting. In particular road safety concerns were discussed regarding animal crashes and
near misses with the Committee voting unanimously in favour of reducing the speed limit to 90km/h.
