EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Not applicable.
RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by The J Coordinator to the Services & Organisation Committee
Meeting dated 7 February 2017 and approve an amendment of the lease between Council and
the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) for the use of lease area B at The J to allow for an
extension of a further 5 years with a single option of another 5 years thereafter.
REPORT
The J entered into a lease with the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) in 2006 for the provision
of dedicated facilities for the University’s Noosa campus. The initial 10-year term expired on 31
December 2016. The lease currently provides for a further 10-year term, exercisable via the
activation of an option by USC.
USC have indicated their desire to continue their usage of The J however they have requested the
lease be amended to allow for a 5-year extension with the option for another 5 years thereafter,
rather than the current 10-year extension option. No other terms of the lease are proposed to be
varied.
Management have discussed this request and have no concerns with facilitating it. If Council
agrees to USC’s request then the lease will need to be amended and sent to the Queensland Titles
Registry office for registration.
