Details of Submission es | (We), make the following submission: We fully support the expansion of the Noosa Civic. As local accommodation providers who accommodate up to 250 guests at any time we find that guests are always asking us where they can shop, unfortunately we have to send them to Maroochydore to Sunshine Plaza as they do not find the current street shopping, or the Civic in its current form, suitable. A number of our guests need to use public transport to access Sunshine Plaza which can take over an hour of their time each way. Majority of our guests are from major cities and therefore they are used to larger type shopping centres. We worry that once they leave the Shire and spend the day in Maroochydore which meets their needs then next time they come to the Sunshine Coast they will chase to stay in that area. Noosa’s main industry is Tourism and we should be doing everything we can to keep them in our Shire and not to the Sunshine Coast Council’s Shire especially after we fought so hard to de-amalgamate. As a further note, when we are purchasing items for units for refurbishing we generally have to travel to Maroochydore to buy items as they are just not available in Noosa. This is time wasting as we would rather be at the resort doing other things then travelling to Maroochydore a couple of times a month. Finally, we have lived on the Sunshine Coast for 15 years and we would personally like better shopping and better department type stores to shop in, don’t really understand why a developer is allowed to purchase land that is zoned for development if they are not allowed to use it for that purpose.
