Service Review 2014-15
The J
patron, performer and staff comfort and amenity as well as technical performance and compliance
with contemporary building regulations.
Further study in the following disciplines is required to determine the viability of the proposed
improvements;
Architectural
Building Certification
Structural Engineering
Services Engineering
Acoustics
Cost Planning, and
Marketing to determine more accurately performance potential and customer expectations.
This conceptual study shows;
The existing “J” theatre capacity can be increased to a 430-450 seat theatre;
The existing “dull” acoustic can be changed to a “brighter” acoustic, more suitable to live
music.
Variable ‘acoustic’ systems could make some variation to the acoustic allowing a diversity of
performances;
The Stage can be enlarged and back stage facilities built which will allow a greater range of
performances;
Additional study is required to determine possibilities more precisely and to determine cost;
An initial budget of $5-6 million should be set aside to achieve most, if not all, of the
improvements.
