PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 14 OCTOBER 2014
Map 1 EDV Area
The overall area can be broken down into five sub-areas with their 2011 resident populations
represented proportionally in Figure 1 below. The total population of the EDV area is 5,921
(based on census data).
In broad terms, the closer to the Noosa Shire boundary the higher the reliance on and more
interaction with Noosa Shire for work, recreation, shopping, education and other social
infrastructure. For instance, most residents of Eumundi Range, Doonan and Weyba Downs are
more likely to have a closer community of interest with Noosa Shire. Conversely, more residents
of Eumundi are employed outside of Noosa Shire and take advantage of shops, childcare, fitness
and leisure facilities closer to work or between work and home.
Noosa libraries at Cooroy and Noosaville are well patronised by residents of the EDV area. In a
twelve month period, Cooroy and Noosaville Libraries issue over 33,000 items to residents of
Doonan, close to 25,000 items to residents of Eumundi, over 4,300 items to residents of
Verrierdale and close to 4,000 items to residents of Weyba Downs. In total, over 65,300 items
are issued by Noosa libraries to residents of the EDV area showing that many residents of those
areas come to Noosa to access community facilities.
Noosa Leisure Centre has 33 regular members from the EDV area while Noosa Aquatic Centre
has 140. Approximately 20% of the membership of Wallace House Arts and Craft Association
are residents outside of Noosa Shire with a large proportion coming from this area. Ticket sales
at The J and Noosa Arts Theatre suggest a high degree of patronage from residents to the south
west of Noosa Shire and various sports clubs in Noosa have members from throughout the EDV
area. Noosa Regional Gallery statistics show that 30% of the “Friends of the Gallery” mailing
group are from the Sunshine Coast local government area – predominately the EDV area.
