PETITION: OFFLEASH AREA · 2024-06-20 Attachment 1 to the Minutes - Petition - Off Leash Area & Dog Park in Cooroy - Trevor Butler
Noosa Council Petition for Off Lead Area & Dog Park Dear Councillors, The signatories attached wish to petition for an off lead area and a dog park in the Cooroy area & suggest the following for council consideration: 1. The present designated off lead area near Kauri Street is not viable & so is not used by dog owners. 2. The council makes available suitable land areas & facilities for many sporting clubs, some of which have very low usage rates. 3. Dog ownership is very high in the Cooroy area & suitable places for training & running are not available. 4. Allowing dogs to run off lead encourages them to socialise while exercising, leading to generally better dog behaviour both with people & other dogs. 5. At present, the incidence of off lead dog walking & running, contrary to council rules, is very high, leading to the feeling that the needs of dog owners are not being met. 6. Some other councils allow off lead times on sports grounds and/or parks. 7. Present Noosa Council dog parks & off lead areas are not close to Cooroy. The following suggestions are made for consideration: 1. OFF LEAD AREA. The rugby field adjacent to Sportsgrounds Parade is used rarely, is fenced to the road, & could be made available for off lead dogs in limited hours, say 0500 — 0900, Sunday to Friday. This would avoid Saturdays, when cricket & football matches are played on nearby grounds. There would be no cost to ratepayers. 2. DOG PARK. The Car Club has a large area of land which is mostly snused This area would need suitable dog proof fences & separation from the club house. All land would still be available to the car club for special events. Council may be aware of other suitable land.
