2.3.1 Vegetation Hazard Class 02 – Open forests / woodlands - shrubby
Vegetation Hazard Class 02 (VHC 02) occupies the northern and western peripheries of the site and
the central watercourse along with a small section of land in the south-west. This vegetation
community was observed to exhibit an average canopy height of approximately 20-30m with an
average projective foliage canopy cover of 50%. The canopy was dominated by a range of
myrtaceous species including Eucalyptus grandis (flooded gum), Eucalyptus microcorys (tallow
wood), Lophostemon confertus (brush box) and Corymbia intermedia (pink bloodwood). The
midstorey and understorey was characterised by juvenile canopy species and native shrubs and
vines. The dense to mid-dense ground cover was dominated by a range of native species including
ferns, grasses and herbs. Plate 7 depicts typical conditions within VHC 02, which is described by
Leonard et al. (2014) as having a potential fuel load of 30 t/ha.

2.3.2 Vegetation Hazard Class 08 – Acacia communities
Vegetation Hazard Class 08 (VHC 08) dominates the southern slopes of the site and the mid slopes
of the hill in the north of the site. It comprises areas dominated by high density regrowth species
including Acacia species and Pinus ellioti (slash pine). VHC 08 is described by Leonard et al. (2014)
as having a potential fuel load of 10 t/ha. Plate 8 depicts typical conditions within VHC 08.

2.3.3 Vegetation Hazard Class 12 – Mixture of rural classes – mainly grassland
Vegetation Hazard Class 12 (VHC 12) dominates the land about the site to the north, east and west.
It comprises areas dominated by high density exotic grass species including Setaria sphacelata
(South African pigeon grass) with lower density native species including Acacia species and Pinus
ellioti (slash pine). VHC 12 is described by Leonard et al. (2014) as having a potential fuel load of 5
t/ha. Plate 9 depicts typical conditions within VHC 12.
