REPORT
The purpose of this report is to provide Council with an overview of Council’s Traffic Advisory
Committee and report on the May 15, 2014 Meeting Minutes.

1. Background
The Noosa Council Traffic Advisory and Speed Management Committee is a technical advisory
committee advising Council on the following matters referred to it:
• Reviewing issues of traffic safety across the Council region and discussing and
implementing changes as necessary in accordance with the Manual for Uniform Traffic
Control Devices (MUTCD) and other official guidelines.
• Considering referrals to the committee on traffic safety related issues from a range of
stakeholders and providing responses which are consistent with those issued by similar
                          authorities across the state.

Council refers traffic related matters to the Traffic Advisory and Speed Management Committee
prior to exercising its delegated functions.

The committee considers the technical merits of proposals against current technical guidelines.
Council is not bound by the advice of the committee. The committee was reformed in
accordance with the Local Government Regulation 2012 in February 2014 and meets quarterly.

One of the issues that arose at the meeting of the Committee on 15 May was the use of Segways
on road reserves and public land. The Council does not yet have any formal policy on this issue.
It is suggested that a draft policy be developed for consideration by Council with input from
relevant staff including our Property and Facilities section. Feedback will also be sought from
Councillors prior to a draft policy being referred to Council for consideration.

The next Noosa Council Traffic Advisory and Speed Management Committee meeting is
scheduled for Thursday, 14 August 2014.
