LANDSCAPE INTENT AND SPECIFICATIONS TYPICAL NATSPEC PLANTING DETAIL
The proposed landscape garden areas are located in an exposed coastal beachfront environment. The proposed trees are to comply with the NATSPEC specifications and to be planted and staked as shown in this detail.
The natural landscape character for this area is coastal plant species that will endure exposure from wind
and salt spray. The exposure, combined with low fertility of the sand and its inability to hold moisture,
present difficult conditions for plants and considerable care is needed in plant selection.
The recommended plant species characterise a typical coastal/beachfront area and will achieve an overall
landscaped effect. An appropriate dense rate of coastal planting has been introduced to provide a thicker
coverage which will protect and support individual plants.
In time the prostrate plant growth will cover the exposed mulch areas and assist in stabilising the area.
This outlook will improve the visual amenity from the boardwalk area and a clear line of sight for patrons
from within the Bistro C restaurant.
Local species have been incorporated that are better suited to the local environment and therefore have
lower maintenance requirements.
The mulched areas will provide a better growing environment for plants, suppress weeds and retain water.
ORGANIC MULCH will consist of hoop pine curls and should be spread over the planted area at a depth
of 100mm and be kept 50mm from stems of plants to avoid collar rot.
PEBBLE AGGREGATE as detailed on Sheet 1 will be spread to a depth of 50mm.
PLANTS
a) Are ordered well in advance to ensure availability of required numbers and sizes;
b) Plants are well-formed, hardened-off stock, well-branched & foliated, true to type;
c) The root system is sturdily established in container with no large roots extending and not root bound;
d) Form & habit are normal for species scheduled & pruning scars to be clean cut;
e) Leaves are of normal shape colour & texture with minimal physical damage;
f) Plants are free of living insect pests and free from any disease or physical injury;
g) Containers are free of weeds; and
h) All plants are delivered to site clearly & accurately labeled. Containers to be
maintained on site until planted.
One agri-form fertiliser tablet or a slow release fertiliser must be added to each new plant along with rain

TREE PROTECTION (REFER TO ARBORIST BRIEF BY TREESAFE AUSTRALIA, REF.: KLA 860, JULY 2018 Not to scale Not to scale
All trees identified for protection/retaining are great specimen plants and exhibit few hazards at the time of
inspection.
The landscape areas have been designed around the existing Pandanus species.
If tree protection measures are followed long term sustainability of these plants will be achieved.
Site modifications will alter environmental conditions and tree maintenance will depend on the way the
remaining trees adapt to these changes. This highlights the need to follow tree protection strategies that
will reduce this impact and which should be provided by a qualified arborist prior to the construction of the
proposed retaining walls.
Any pruning works shall be undertaken in consultation with or by the project Arborist and carried out in
accordance with AS 4373- Pruning of Amenity Trees.
