MCU120184 traffic petition
Julia Walkden 423 Old Ceylon Road, Cooroy QLD 4563 19 November 2014 Brett De Chastel CEO Noosa Council PO Box 141, Tewantin QLD 4565 Dear Mr De Chastel, Re: The development application for an intensive meat chicken farm at Ridgewood/West Cooroy | Development application: MCU 12/0184 This petition contains 220 signatures of residents that live along the transport route for the proposed intensive meat chicken farm. These people overwhelmingly oppose the development application and submit this petition to indicate to our Noosa councillors and planners the depth of opposition to this inappropriately sited development. The proposal would result in dangerous traffic conditions due to heavy vehicular traffic, especially from B-doubles. Top Forestry Road is unpaved, narrow and winding and cannot be adequately widened to make it safe. The turn from Cooroy-Belli Creek Road into Old Ceylon Road is impossible to do legally, with a large, articulated vehicle. Heavy vehicles already make Cooroy-Belli Creek Road dangerous for residents travelling to and from work each day, and for the several school buses that service the area and cyclists that use this Council-designated cycle training route. The roads along the transport route have many blind driveways that are hazardous, so negotiating the roadway is already difficult for residents under the present conditions. The Noosa Christian College entry is along Cooroy-Belli Creek Road, and we are concerned that the heavy vehicles will create dangerous traffic conditions for the many vehicles turning into the school early in the morning. The hazards along Maple and Crystal streets are many. The roundabout is not designed for heavy vehicles and certainly not safely negotiable by B-doubles. In the early morning, the roundabout area is crowded with school buses, cyclists, children walking to school, and cars heading to Noosa High School in nearby Tulip Street. Crystal Street is narrow, has a blind corner, and will be dangerous for large, heavy vehicles, as people often park their cars and caravans along the road. The intersection of Crystal and Myall streets is a morning and afternoon peak hour bottleneck already and is difficult to negotiate over several hours. And finally, the heavy vehicle traffic would cause unacceptably high levels of noise, odour and dust for residents living close to the transport route, especially from 2-8am during the catch-out periods. It is respectfully requested that the Council reject the development application for this intensive meat chicken farm. This petition is served on behalf of the listed signatories by Julia Walkden. Yours sincerely, hike Walden Julia Walkden
