3 Proposed Wastewater System
3.1 Proposed Wastewater System
It is proposed to relace the composing tank leachate drain and the greywater disposal with a partitioned
septic tank and advanced enviro septic (AES) bed. A 10m setback is required to the surface waters, and
as such a pump is required in the second chamber of the septic tank.
3.2 Design Details
Table 4 below presents the features of the proposed wastewater system.
Table 5: Design Features
Feature Details
Water supply Rain water / bore water
Volume Allowance 1503 L/person/day
Design Volume Number of bedrooms 1
Design population 2
Total Design Volume (Q) 300 L/day
Category 5
Soil Characteristics
Design Loading Rate (DLR) 12 mm/day
Septic tank capacity 3000 L (min) partitioned tank, with pump
Treatment facility Advanced Enviro Septic (AES)
Treatment System
Treatment plant approval 06 - 2024
Treatment level Advanced secondary
Required disposal area A = Q/DLR = 25 m2
Disposal Area Footprint as per
12.9m x 1.94m = 25 m2
AES Design Calculator
The design of the AES system is presented in Appendix A.
The Advanced Enviro-Septic Approved Design Calculator is presented in Appendix B.
The AES Treatment Plant Approval is presented in Appendix C.
General requirements and notes
• 100% reserve area to be kept clear of permanent structures
• Deep rip base of beds and spread gypsum at 1kg/m2
• Grass is to be established in the land application area, and mown regularly
• Stormwater should not traverse the land application area. Construct a stormwater diversion
upslope
• General access to the land application area by pedestrians, vehicles and animals is to be
generally excluded
• Install at least 2x ‘effluent reuse’ warning signs around land application area
• The system is to be installed, operated and serviced in accordance with manufacture
specifications
• The land application area has been designed based on a daily wastewater volume in accordance
with AS1547. Any exceedance of this design volume may have adverse effects on the land
application area
3
Conservative volume allowance, as composting toilets have very low discharge volumes
