GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 17 AUGUST 2020
Bushland Area Management Action
Heritage Park Bushland Reserve As per the management plan for the Parklands area, a
significant new fire trail will be established at the back of the
properties around the reserve.
Lake Doonella Bushland Reserve A new development here has restricted access through a
previously used block, so a new trail will be developed.
Alyxia Nature Refuge There is the remnants of old trail here that is being re-
established.
Weyba Bushland Reserve South Establishment of a new trail
Yunaman Bushland Reserve Top end of a slope, fuel reduction zone, combination of widening
and vegetation management
Peregian Beach Foreshore Reserve Establishment of a mix of new trail and fuel reduction zones,
South depending on landscape.
Girraween Nature Refuge In preparation for one of our burns in 2021/22, a containment
line in the burn area will be created, as well as a small
expansion area around the waste treatment plant.
Dolphin Bay Drainage Reserve Widening of existing fire trail, in support of QPWS access for fire
management.
Weyba Nature Refuge In preparation for a controlled burn, a temporary control line
through some heath will be created.
Planned burning
Council currently undertakes some planned burns within its bushland reserves. These are
prioritised using the State Planning Policy Potential Bushfire Intensity (PBI) mapping which
identifies bushfire prone areas across the Queensland. The CSIRO developed the methodology
for the fire hazard mapping based on vegetation type, fuel load, slope and fire weather severity.
The mapping identifies areas of medium, high and very high fire hazard, and fire management
actions are prioritised accordingly.

Policy – state interest guidance material.
This is coupled with the State Bushfire Interface Zone mapping to provide a prioritised annual
program of works. This mapping is based on the intensity of a vegetation fire within 100 meters of
assets such as buildings. Sites with the highest Bushfire Interface rating are given the highest risk
rating.
