Environment Project Grant applications 2024-2025 Summary
Applicant Project name Project overview
Wildlife Noosa Noosa River - Line and Net • Wildlife Noosa has been gathering resources to be positioned to undertake more ‘on river’ rescues of injured and
Reduction Program 2024 sick animals on the Noosa River. To that end they have purchased a Pontoon Boat, 2 Jet Skis and 2 kayaks – so
that volunteers can go out each week and care for animals in need on the river.
• Wildlife Noosa note that the cost of these items has been approx. $60,000 and reflects Wildlife Noosa deep
commitment to caring for our native wildlife.
• The specific project that they are requesting Noosa Council funding support for is for The Wildlife Noosa Solution
is to undertake 40 trips (approx. weekly) on the river in a combination of the pontoon boat and jet skis and remove
as much waste material and hazards as possible. Wildlife Noosa volunteers are ready under the guidance of the
program Coordinator – and chief rescue officer William Watson and each volunteer has their powerboat license
and Wildlife Noosa training in safely caring for trapped and sick/injured animals.
• It is anticipated that these pre-emptive trips and waste line/net removal will save approx. 40 rescues per annum
and alleviate the associated suffering of the local animals.
Noosa Landholder guide for the This project aims to provide a comprehensive resource guide for hinterland and residential landholders in the Noosa
Landcare Noosa Shire Shire to support and encourage conservation, restoration and sustainable land management within the shire.
This guide will:
• Celebrate and build community awareness of locally significant and threatened species and vegetation
communities within the Noosa Shire.
• Highlight key threatening processes (e.g. weeds, erosion, inappropriate land clearing, fire etc.) and provide locally
specific and landholder focused solutions.
• Provide information on the different catchments within the Noosa Shire and waterway management tools and
considerations to achieve Noosa Council water quality, biodiversity and ecosystem function objectives for the
Shire’s waterways.
• Give landholders a step-by-step guide on different restoration techniques, methodologies and concepts. Eg.
revegetation, weed management, restoration planning and mapping, plant guides for different vegetation types and
wildlife, wildlife habitat support on rural land and sustainable/regenerative farms.
• Provide information about the different landholder focused conservation and restoration programs accessible to
local landholders, including the Urban Wildlife Gardens, Land for Wildlife Program and Voluntary Conservation
Program.
