STATE GOVERNMENT ADVOCACY ON A QUEENSLAND PILOT TO REGULATE DATA
CENTRES - LOCATION, ENERGY USE AND TREATED WASTEWATER COOLING - AND STATE
FUNDING FOR COUNCIL-DELIVERED LIFEGUARD SERVICES TO REDUCE COASTAL
DROWNINGS

That Council:
A. Requests that the Chief Executive Officer refer the proposed motion calling on the State
   Government to develop a Queensland pilot model code for data centres, addressing location,
   energy consumption and the use of treated wastewater for cooling, to the LGAQ Policy Executive
   for consideration following the 2026 Annual Conference.
B. Requests that the Chief Executive Officer pursue direct advocacy with the Queensland
   Government on two matters: first, the proposed model code for data centres; and second, the
   introduction of dedicated funding for council-delivered lifeguard services, in response to
   Queensland's rising coastal drowning toll and noting that State funding currently covers only the
   volunteer surf lifesaving season, not professional, council-delivered services. Requests further
   that this advocacy seek the support of the Council of Mayors (South East Queensland) on both
   matters, where appropriate.
C. Requests that the Chief Executive Officer investigate opportunities to collaborate with Unitywater
   on the proposed model code, including through the Burgess Creek Integrated Catchment
   Management Plan.
