Support letter to reject MCU22 0118
Attached to the e-mail PM Submission - Craig Bowater - MCU22/0118.
Additional Information for the rejection of the application MCU22/0118 proposal for 16 ECO Units at 142 Noosa DR, Noosa Heads 4567 The Koala is recognised by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as one of only ten species worldwide that is highly vulnerable to climate change. We have already witnessed the loss of 30% of Koala habitat due to bushfires, and drought nationally. Noosa’s world biosphere status is under severe threat from over development, land clearing and loss of natural habitat. The recent clearing of almost 15 Hectares of old growth Koala high value habitat at Noosa Civic. Noosa is going backwards when it comes to stewardship of the nature resources contained in the Biosphere. We need our council to support the biosphere and not act to hasten its demise. The development of short-term accommodation is not required, when was the last time you saw a Koala around Noosa; this is a prime location and officially recognised as a core for Koalas. If as the reports included in the DA that the existing trees could be saved by weeding, and further planted as part of a revegetation of the local fauna to encourage birds, Koalas then that should be encouraged. This could be achieved by establishing stewardship payments for private landholders to protect Koala habitat on their land and derive value in creating a sustainable environment for residents and visitors. The planning application states that only 35% of the Koala trees would be felled to make way for the ECO (cheap/disposable?) units. Saving under 65% of the trees. There are no remarks regarding Human interaction on the site. Koalas by nature avoid areas inhabited by humans. The short-term accommodation nature of the application is not something that NOOSASHIRE needs at the cost of ever more destruction of our world renown Noosa Biosphere.
