REPORT
1. Background
It is a requirement of the Disaster Management Act 2003 (the Act) that every Local Government
prepare a plan (a local disaster management plan) for disaster management in their local
government area. A Local Disaster Management Plan must be consistent with the State’s
disaster management guidelines and plans are audited annually by Queensland Police Service
(QPS) and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES).
On 16 December 2013 the Noosa Transfer Manager Peter Franks adopted the Sunshine Coast
and Noosa Local Disaster Management Plan 2014 as the Noosa Council’s Local Disaster
Management Plan. This plan has guided disaster management operations in the Noosa Shire for
the past 18 months.
The Sunshine Coast and Noosa Local Disaster Management Plan 2014 (the previous Plan) was
developed as a joint plan for both the Sunshine Coast and Noosa Local Government areas in
order to facilitate the de amalgamation. It was audited by QPS and QFES in August 2014 and a
number of recommendations for improvements made.
