With eleven months of the 2014/15 financial year complete, the Libraries team budget is
$305,101 below the estimated budget position with revenue 29% ahead of projections and
expenditure 9.2% less than estimated.
Through the 2014 Libraries Service Review, a budget savings of $151,000 was required and this
has been achieved. The savings have predominantly been achieved through changes to casual
staffing, contract services, collections and programming.
The underspend in expenditure is primarily due to:
Underspend in employee costs due to several key vacancies remaining unfilled;
Underspend in building and facilities maintenance as we have been awaiting condition
assessments to determine priority areas for maintenance works;
Grant funding having been received but not yet expended; and
End of financial year collections items to be receipted and invoices processed.
General revenue in Libraries is $19,000 above estimated targets through increased promotion of
services such as printing and fee based programming to subsidise costs.
The Libraries team have been successful in seeking grant funding to support activities with
$108,000 being won in the last twelve months including $46,000 for a financial literacy program,
$14,481 for an ANZAC centenary project and $18,824 for a coding and robots project.
