ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT 4-8
Element 6 – Erosion and Sediment Control
Policy: To prevent erosion of areas to be disturbed as part of ERP implementation and the
transport of sediment and soil to outside construction area. To prevent or minimise the
risk of detrimental impacts on receiving waters and aquatic ecosystems resulting from
discharge of water from site during program. (refer Conditions 14.1, 78-90; Council
Policy, EP Act)
Strategy: To ensure that erosion and sedimentation is adequately controlled during the
ERP implementation.
Responsibility: ERP Contractor (in Liaison with Restoration Ecologist). Surface water monitoring
to be undertaken by specialist consultant appointed by the developer.
Management Actions:
1. The general principles of the Erosion and Sediment Control (E and SC) Plan are to ensure that:
• All activities occur within approved disturbance areas as addressed with Wildlife Ecologist
and Restoration Ecologist.
• All disturbed areas with exposed soil are to be temporarily stabilised by mulching with
material produced from native vegetation derived from the adjacent construction site.
• Exposed soil areas are to be revegetated as soon as practicable after clearing/ disturbance.
• All revegetation shall be carried out in accordance with the ERP.
• No clearing of vegetation, ground disturbance and associated earthworks activities.
resulting in exposed soil areas in excess of 600m2 are to be undertaken without an erosion
and sediment control plan being available for such works.
• Clean stormwater is to be diverted around bare soil areas of the site including any stockpile
runoff. Any sediment control measures are to avoid significant trees and retained
vegetation.
• Installation of controls on the upstream and downstream side of any stockpiles or fill
embankments.
• Removal and appropriate disposal of deposited material, litter and gross pollutants.
Inspections of erosion and deposition to be conducted on a weekly basis and following storm events
that have the potential to cause erosion ie. normally events with a rainfall intensity greater than
25mm/hr or greater than 50mm each day. Water quality monitoring locations within the ERP area
(see Appendix C) are to be identified and protected from any disturbance that may affect monitoring
results (locations and management to be addressed in liaison with the Wildlife Ecologist).
Erosion and sediment control measures will be implemented in areas prior to commencement of any
ground disturbance activities. This includes:
• Designating areas for machinery and material storage (as required) away from drainage
paths (see Element 1);
