Ecological Assessment Report – Appendices 14 Serenity Close, Noosa Heads APPENDIX 6: HEURISTIC DECISION MODEL The following represents a heuristic decision tree for use in habitat likelihood assessment to determine the likelihood of species occupying or utilising a subject site. While this heuristic tree was designed for use in the assessment of fauna habitat likelihood, there is nothing precluding its use for flora habitat likelihood assessment. The definitions underlying the likelihood assessment, predicating outcomes of the decision tree, are shown below, with p(x) representing the probability (0% - 100%) that a given species (x) will be occupying or utilising the site: Was the species observed1 on- site? O Site contains known or CONFIRMED potential habitats2 for the species? Species Species recorded from recorded from similar habitat in similar habitat in locality3 of the locality3 of the site? site? S Species within the LIKELY distributional POSSIBLE UNLIKELY range4 of the species? O POSSIBLE UNLIKELY • Confirmed – observed or recorded on the site 1 (p(x) = 100%); 1 Based on systematic survey or incidental observation by Litoria Consulting ecologists, or based on anecdotal observations by credible source.
