Wessel Petroleum Pty Ltd – GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION - Proposed Service Station Reconstruction, 52-54 Mary Street and Weyba Road,
Noosaville
The soil classification descriptions, field and laboratory testing were carried out in general
accordance with AS 1726–2017 ‘Geotechnical Site Investigations’.
A description of the investigation method, together with the borehole records and a site plan
showing the location of the boreholes are included in the Appendices. Borehole coordinates
were recorded using a hand held GPS device, with accuracy consistent with such devices.
4.3 Laboratory Testing
Laboratory testing was carried out on selected samples retrieved from the site investigation
program for geotechnical and acid sulfate soil requirements.
4.3.1 Geotechnical Testing
The laboratory testing was carried out in general accordance with AS 1289 – ‘Methods of
Testing Soils for Engineering Purposes’.
Laboratory testing included:-
Particle Size Distribution (PSD) - to assess material quality parameters.
California Bearing Ratio (CBR) - to assess the subgrade characteristics of the
subsurface material under soaked conditions.
The results of the laboratory testing are given in Appendix C and summarised in Table 1A.

4.3.2 Acid Sulfate Soils Testing
A total of 42 soil samples (on a basis of sampling from the surface or beneath the pavement
surfacing at depth intervals of 0.25m to a depth of at least 1.0m below the proposed excavation
levels in two boreholes – BH’1 and BH6) were submitted for a staged acid sulfate testing
program.
