Supporting Document - Noosa Ferry Operator
Attached to the e-mail Minor Change Application OPW17/0150.01.
G 40 October 2018 PELICAN BOAT HIRE NOOSA To Noosa Council This letter is to support the application for a Minor Change Application to approvals for the Pelican Boat Hire jetty and pontoon structure. As the operator of this facility and business, | can confirm that: 1. The current pontoon and jetty structure does not form a navigation hazard and is well outside the main navigation channels; 2. Vessels are never moored on the outside of the pontoon overnight or for any extended period. The area is kept clear for loading and unloading and all of our own boats have reserved pens closer to shore. 3. The exterior edge of the pontoon is recognised as being unsuitable for long term mooring as the wake from passing boats (travelling at 20 knots plus) causes unacceptable safety and damage risks due to its lateral placement to the boat wake. 4. The Noosa Ferry in particular relies on the pontoon being kept clear for its passenger drop-offs which occur 364 days a year. A letter of support has been provided to confirm the new design has been uniquely and purposefully designed to provide full disabled access to all boats and areas providing a significant improvement in amenity to locals and visitors. 5. The upgrade to the fuel system and bowsers has significant improved safety standards and environmental protection for all users and the community. The design enables all vessels with access to marine diesel and unleaded fuel safely and importantly with deep water access all year round and in all tides. This is particularly important in light of the increasing silting of the Noosa River. 6. The facility is the only marine diesel station available between Mooloolaba and Tin Can Bay. It is relied on by all essential services including Noosa Coast Guard and Water Police as well as all larger visiting cruisers. This is the largest and busiest fuel station on the Noosa River and services the majority of major tourism operators including Makepeace Island, Thriller, Noosa Ferry, Water Taxi, Gondolas, Oceanrider, multiple fishing charter operators as well as residents and visitors. Any variation to the current facility would require the structure and fuel system to be dismantled and rebuilt as Code compliance requires single piece dual skinned vacuum fuel hoses from the tank to the bowser. These cannot be readily adjusted or changed. We believe the Minor Change Application is reasonable and appropriate for the location.
