Finance & Risk
The recommendations in this report ensure adequate integration of state interests as it relates to
mining and extractive industry, reducing the risk of non-compliance with the State Planning
Policy.
The exclusion of local extractive resource areas and mining designations from the new Planning
Scheme that are abandoned, exhausted, not viable, have no future demand or are subject to
major environmental constraints, reduce the risk of sterilising the site for future uses. It also
removes restrictions on surrounding land within separation buffer areas that are no longer
required.
The continued inclusion of resource areas and mining areas that are active, have valid mining
leases and meet future demand for raw materials, ensures resources are protected and the risk
of potential impacts on surrounding sensitive land uses is reduced.
