Environmental Traffic and Rail Noise Level Impact Assessment for Proposed Residential Unit Development,

All of the above noise level measurements were free-field, measured from the subject site from
monitoring location A approx. 47 m from centre of the train tracks.

From the above single event maximum rail noise levels the fifteen highest values are:

        Wednesday 2nd June:          78.4, 75.9, 82.3, 79.3, 79.2, 76.5, 68.9, 79.3, 68.0, 69.1, 70.6, 69.0,
                                      72.7, 80.2 and 79.2 dB(A), average = 75.2 dB(A);
        Thursday 3rd June:           77.9, 79.9, 78.1, 79.6, 80.4, 71.3, 69.2, 68.7, 75.1, 70.6, 68.4, 68.4,
                                      76.5, 80.7 and 79.2 dB(A), average = 74.9 dB(A).

Building Facade Noise Levels

At monitoring location A the rail noise levels are, relative to the requirements of AO25.1:

        54.9 + 2.5 (facade correction) = 57.4 dB(A) LAeq,24h; and
        75.2 + 2.5 (facade correction) = 77.7 dB(A) single event maximum rail passby noise.

The above monitoring location A rail noise levels comply with the noise limits of LAeq,24H 65 dB(A) and
single event maximum rail passby noise limit of 87 dB(A), as required by AO25.1.

The closest building facades to the railway line will be setback from the Elm Street boundary 6 metres,
compared to the microphone which was set back 7.6 metres. This difference of 1.6 + 1 (distance that
the noise limit applies from the facade) = 2.6 metres would account for an increase in rail noise level at
the closest façade of approximately:

        0.6 dB(A) single event maximum;
        0.3 dB(A) LAeq,24H.

These adjustments to the above rail noise levels will still result in compliance with the façade noise
criteria. Therefore, as AO25.1 is complied with there is no requirement for compliance with AO25.2 to
AO25.4 inclusive.

Private Open Space and Recreation Area Noise Levels

The private open space and recreation noise criteria are free field, LAeq,24H noise limit of 62 dB(A) and
single event maximum rail passby noise limit of 84 dB(A). At the closest private open space of the
subject site to the railway line the free field rail noise levels are:

        54.9 + 0.3 = 55.2 dB(A) LAeq,24h; and
        75.2 + 0.6 = 76.1 dB(A) single event maximum rail passby noise.

Both of the above comply with the noise limit criteria for private open space and recreation areas.
