4 C D Developments Environmental Traffic and Rail Noise Level Impact Assessment for Proposed Residential Unit Development, 54 Elm Street and 5 Pearl Street, Cooroy Page 25 of 35 control must be mechanically ventilated and/or air-conditioned. This air-conditioning/mechanical ventilation system must be designed and installed such that it maintains the internal noise and, furthermore, complies with the ventilation requirements of the Building Code of Australia. With the 2.0 metre high Elm Street boundary acoustic barrier and 2.0 metre high and 15 metre long returns on the northern and southern boundaries of 54 Elm Street in place, ultimate traffic noise levels comply with the private external living area noise limits, with no additional noise control measures required. The required traffic and rail Noise Category to control these transport noise levels to the noise limit for habitable rooms is detailed in Table 8 and Table 9 respectively, for all proposed residential units, for Level 1 and 2, for all facades. To ensure adequate noise control for habitable rooms for the combined effect of both traffic and rail noise impact, Table 10 details the Noise Category for all proposed residential units, for Level 1 and 2, for all facades. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that, from an environmental noise perspective, the proposed residential development at 54 Elm Street and 9 Pearl Street, Cooroy be approved. This approval must include the nominated acoustic barriers and the nominated Noise Category for the materials of construction, for both levels and all of the facades of the proposed residential units.
